About The Author: James Edigio
After completing a Biology / Chemistry Degree in 1994/5, James Egidio aspired to complete a surgical Physician Assistant Program (Cardiothoracic). He applied to a number of reputed Surgical Assistant Programs at Cornell, Bowman Grey at Wake Forest, the University of Alabama and the University of Nebraska. While James was completing his Biology / Chemistry Degree, he secured interviews with Western Health Sciences’ PA Program in Southern California from 1996-1997.
By 1998, James had garnered an interest in the business side of medicine and his entrepreneurial spirit seized the opportunity when insurance companies started allowing housecall doctors to accept medical insurance and receive reimbursement for their services. It was in the same year that James took the plunge and partnered himself with several local physicians to start HouseCall Doctors, LLC.
With his new venture, James quickly learnt the business intricacies of owning and operating a medical housecall practice, from marketing and promoting the practice to managing the finances and the staffing requirements. It was his self-admitted ‘thirst for knowledge’ and his passion for management that ensured this venture became a resounding success. HouseCall Doctors, LLC. and its ‘fee for service’ or cash only method of medicine inspired James to start a writing project between 2003 and 2004, and following the success of his cash only model of medical services, resulted in him authoring and self-publishing his first book, a business manual entitled ‘A Physician’s Complete Guide To A Successful Medical House Call Practice’, which was soon followed by the revised edition, ‘A Nurse Practitioner’s Complete Guide to a Successful Medical House Call Practice’.
After a few years, James observed some changes in medical practices and with the industry and the reimbursement rates that were on offer by medical insurance companies and identified some drawbacks. There were a number of legal and financial challenges with insurance accepting medical practices that still had to be overcome, and in order to circumnavigate the red tape, he decided that a change of gear was in order. In 2005, he added in addition to his medical house call practice a ‘fee for service’ or cash only medical practice to ensure that his business model for medical house calls was not adversely affected by the bureaucracy. The success of this venture was soon followed by his third business manual for physicians, entitled ‘Learn How to Start a Cash Only Medical Practice’.
